Biography

Dr. Nelson graduated from the University of Texas – Pan American University with a BS in Biology and a Masters in Psychology. After practicing psychotherapy for several years, he attended the University of Texas Medical School at Houston where he obtained his medical degree. His postgraduate training included a residency in Psychiatry and a Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He is board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Nelson is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, Houston Psychiatric Society, Texas Medical Association, and Harris County Medical Society. He was elected by students of the University of Texas Medical School at Houston to receive the Arnold P. Gold “Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award” during his residency. He served as Chief Resident during the Child and Adolescent Fellowship program.

Dr. Nelson sees child, adolescent, and adult patients ages five through fifty-five in his office practice. He has a special interest in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, as well as child and adolescent ADHD.
